"Caring for Dying: The Art of Being Present"

This film was selected as best documentary

at the Poppy Jasper Film Festival.

Up against her own sense of failure with caring for her dying parents, Dr. Peticolas, takes us on her search for people who might have found success.

Marcia is just getting to know author Rick Fields when he is diagnosed with lung cancer. Although he warns her off, she refuses to leave. They struggle through their new relationship while one of them readies to die. Both Christine’s mother and stepfather are dying, but she can only care for one of them. It’s a delicate balance of life, death and love. In one long, exhausting night, Frank Ostaseski, founder of Zen Hospice, learns he is more than just “Mr. Hospice.” Together their stories provide, more than a primer for success, a recipe for forgiveness.

27 minutes

"Evocative, moving, inspirational," says Michael Stephens, MFT, Grief counselor, Kaiser Hospice.  "I would have found the films of immeasurable benefit if I had seen them during my care giving years."

Following the film, Dr. Peticolas will facilitate a discussion on care giving with presence.
